Academic
Coding and Robotics - Grades 6 to 8
The Coding and Robotics Club is for new and experienced ‘coders’ to create, build, and explore through various on-screen and off-screen tools. The club will also focus on developing augmented and virtual reality scenarios. Come innovate with the Coding and Robotics Club!

Debate and Public Speaking - Grades 9 to 12
Participate in a variety of fun public speaking and debate activities to boost your confidence and skills as a public speaker. No previous experience is needed, and there will be opportunities to take part in local, regional, and international competitions.

Junior Reach Club - Grades 8 to 10
School Reach is a competition that tests general knowledge. Teams meet once a week from October to April. We also have a competition against another school approximately once every two weeks. The year ends in a provincial tournament (usually before spring break).

Math Competition Club - Grades 9 to 12
The Math Competition Club will encourage and develop your problem solving skills both individually and as part of a team. The team will participate in at least one local competition.

Model UN - Grades 9 to 12
Model UN is a simulation of the United Nations symposiums, where students will have an opportunity to learn about world issues, diplomacy and international relations protocols. Students are mandated to attend at least one conference throughout the school year. It is an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership, negotiation and public speaking skills.

Intermediate Chess Club - Grades 6 to 8
The Intermediate Chess Club is offered to interested students who enjoy playing chess. During the school year, members of the Intermediate Chess Club will have the opportunity to represent our school at the Provincial Qualifiers as well as the Provincials for those who qualify.

Senior Chess Club - Grades 9 to 12
The Senior Chess Club is offered to interested students in grades 9 to 12 who enjoy playing chess or who want to learn how to play. During the school year, members of the Senior Chess Club will have the opportunity to represent our school at a number of tournaments at various levels both within and outside the province.

Student Council - Grades 11 to 12
The SJS Student Council consists of 10 elected members from Grades 11 and 12 with different roles such as Head Prefect, Treasurer, Secretary and more. Students who wish to run for the Student Council must fulfill the following requirements: be in good academic standing (no grades of 3) and have good standards of conduct relating to uniform, punctuality, behaviour and academic integrity. Please contact Ms. Miklitz or the current Head Prefect for further information.

Wings Newspaper Club - Grades 6 to 12
Wings is open to all students who enjoy asking questions, getting to know their peers and writing informative, interesting stories. Students will work collaboratively to create a monthly online newsletter that reports on student life at St. John’s. To ensure each installment is filled with meaningful articles and published on time, students are responsible for working on the newspaper during scheduled meetings as well as on their own time. In addition to this, there is also a creative writing component where students will have the opportunity to refine their creative writing skills and have it published in Wings.

Art Factory Club - Grades 8 to 12
Art Factory is for students who wish to participate in independent and guided art-making activities outside their classroom works. Students do not need to be enrolled in Visual Art to join the Art Club.

Hip Hop Dance Club - Grades 6 to 12
Learn and practice choreography to perform in school concerts and events throughout the year. Beginners and experienced dancers are welcome. Hip Hop Dance Club is a full-year commitment.

Honours Band - Grades 8 to 12
Honours Band is the St. John’s school Event Concert Band performance ensemble, open to MYP students from Grades 8 -12 by invite or audition only. The Band consists of Brass, woodwind, percussion instruments. Students must commit for the full year. Interested students contact Mr. Deans starting September to establish positions.

Intermediate Choir - Grades 6 to 7
Students in the Intermediate Choir will work on developing their vocal technique and learn choral pieces from a variety of genres. The choir will have the opportunity to perform at various school concerts throughout the year and will be featured at special assemblies and celebrations.

School Play - Grades 6 to 12
If you love working on a team, performing, or using your creativity to make memorable moments, then the school play is for you! Opportunities are available for both onstage and offstage roles. While this is a musical, all experience, interests and backgrounds are welcome! If you have the interest and the time, we have a part for you!
There are three different ways to be a part of the School Musical, each with different times and term commitments:
1. PERFORMERS - Auditions will take place at the end of September.
2. PROPS CREW - Help build the props, design the set, etc. Beginning in Term 1
3. BACKSTAGE CREW - Sign ups will be in January.

Senior Choir - Grades 8 to 12
Students in the Senior Choir will have the opportunity to refine their vocal technique while singing choral pieces from different genres. We'll be working in a small ensemble setting that will be featured at various performances throughout the year.

Senior Jazz Band - Grades 9 to 12
Performance base ensemble with students interested in playing Jazz music. The Band consists of a rhythm section, horn section, guitar and bass. This is a full year commitment. Interested students should contact Mr. Deans starting September to establish positions.

Strings Club - Grades 6 to 12 (invite or audition only)
Strings club is for strings instruments like violin, viola, cello and double bass (not guitar). Strings club transforms into an orchestra and occasionally teams up with Honours Band. Strings Club is open to anyone in the Sr. School but students must have experience on their instruments. Interested new students must contact Mr. Deans to confirm skills and enrollment. This is a full year commitment.

Student Lead Ensembles - Grades 7 to 12
(Per Term commitment)
Student lead small ensembles: students who are interested in forming a group of 2, 3 or 4 Musicians will have access to rehearsal rooms and weekly time slots. Ensembles will have time with an SJS teacher mentor who would require weekly updates on rehearsal progress. Each group is required to produce one video or demonstrate progress towards a performance goal, maintain weekly rehearsals and demonstrate full commitment.

Yearbook Club - Grades 8 to 12
Do you want to help record our St. John's story? You will build your skills in photo, graphics, editing and publishing while working in a team to create our 200+ page yearbook! Participation in the club may require work outside of the club meeting times for photographing various events and groups; this is a 3 term club that is looking for commitment, enthusiasm and creativity.

Athletics
Badminton Team - Grades 8 to 12
The Junior/Senior Badminton team will practice 2 times weekly and play one or two matches per week. Team members must attend all games and tournaments. Athletes will need extensive previous training in badminton and must commit to the entire practice and game schedule. Practice and game schedules will be published as soon as the game schedule has been sent to SJS.

Rec Badminton Team - Grades 8 to 12
The Rec Badminton team will practice once a week and participate in recreational games amongst teammates. This program is offered for those students who seek a fun and developmental space to exercise while improving their badminton skills. Indoor court shoes are required.

Golf Team - Grades 8 to 12
The Senior Golf team will play in two tournaments the last week of May while practicing their skills on their own. Athletes will need previous training in golf and must commit to the entire game schedule.

Junior Track and Field - Grades 6 & 7
The Junior Track and Field Team will practice twice weekly and attend one or two track and field meets. Participation in track meets is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Senior Track and Field - Grades 8 to 12
The Senior Track team will practice three times weekly and enter one meet per week. There will be no weekend meets. Athletes do not need extensive previous training in track and field but must commit to the entire practice and game schedule. Practice and meet schedules will be published as soon as the meet schedule has been sent to SJS.

Ultimate - Grades 6 & 7
The team will have two practices per week and one game day per week and one full-day tournament will conclude the season. Students must commit to the entire practice and game schedule which will be published at the start of the season. Beginner players are encouraged to learn and practice the basic throws and catches before the start of the season.
